This amazing structure is “Jiwaji Observatory” in Ujjain, a 18th century marvel conceptualised by Raja Jai Singh II. This observatory is located on the Tropic of Cancer making it the most suitable for standard time calculation and astronomical research. In the 18th century, Sawai Jai Sigh II, the statesman astronomer was the ruler of Amber in Rajasthan. His reputation as city planner has given him fame throughout the Indian history.

He designed and constructed the new city of Sawai Jayanagar in 1727… today, this is the grand pink city – Jaipur.
This beautifully planned city was built six miles south of Amber. It was well-organized, convenient and designed on the scientific principles of engineering.

Like Jiwaji Observatory in Ujjain, Sawai Jai Singh II has built observatories in Kashi, Delhi, Mathura and in his own capital city – Jaipur. The creator of these observatories, known for the most accurate calculations of his time… Sawai Jai Singh II was not only a just king and heroic commander, but also a well-known astrophysicist and an accomplished scholar.
